Let me tell you a story older than time,
Listen carefully to see love and hate combine.
Malice once roamed the streets free,
No one could stand in her way, you see.
Happiness, love, or peace unheard of,
Cruelty reigned the kingdom, my dove!
This story isn’t for the faint of heart,
Once upon a time, before its start.
A brave-hearted king defeated Malice,
He found love buried in the madness,
Vowing to be upright and fair,
He decided love was something to share.
Thus, our not-so-tragic tale continues,
About its origin, no one argues.
Happy as they were to find romance,
They didn’t have everything, perchance;
Years later, a child they wanted,
Every night, their dreams it haunted.
Hush, the story has only just begun,
Listen, some things can never be undone.
They prayed, and searched,
Following every rumor they heard;
That’s how they found a cure,
A child was in their future, for sure.
Oh, but that’s not how the story ends,
From the ashes, Malice might re-ascend.
Forgetfulness became their downfall,
Shadows walked through the grand hall-
Cursing the child to fall asleep,
Lost in time, a slumber deep.
Wait, every story must have a twist,
Not everything needs to fit.
A loophole they couldn’t anticipate,
Love could emerge from within the hate-
The princess would one day reawaken,
If the strength of true love was unshaken.
Now the story is about to get good,
Oh my, there is something afoot.
She slept for a hundred years,
Soon to be forgotten, my dears;
But someone was coming to stay-
Her prince journeyed from far away.
The story is about love’s victory,
Retold throughout history.
Sleeping Beauty was once again awake,
True love’s power, curses couldn’t take,
They would live happily-ever-after,
And Malice would drown in their laughter.

Hello everyone!
I hope you enjoyed my musical retelling of Sleeping Beauty I wrote for Rewind the Classics 2021 Contest. I chose it because it’s my favorite fairy tale, of course, because of the ‘sleeping’ part.
